DHAKA, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today donated Taka 15 crore to Khulna Child Hospital as seed money for free treatment of its patients and other purposes.
She handed over a cheque for the amount to Deputy Commissioner of Khulna and convenor of Khulna Child Hospital Adhoc Committee and member of Khulna Child Foundation Adhoc Committee Mohammad Helal Hossain at her official Ganabhaban residence here this evening.
The donation will be utilized as seed money for providing treatment to the poor, distressed and specially able children for free.
The money will also be used for giving salary and allowances to the doctors, nurses, officials and employees of the hospital as well as to run it properly.
Sheikh Hasina also gave financial assistance of Tk 82 lakh to four persons.
The prime minister handed over a cheque for Tk 50 lakh to Begum Abida Mostafa Aurin for the treatment of her husband Imam Mohammad Shadeed, Additional Police Super of Sylhet, who has been undergoing treatment for pancreatitis in a hospital in Singapore.
Sheikh Hasina also donated Tk 12 lakh to Mohammad Abdul Mazid Akon and Mosammat Ruma Khatun, father and wife of police constable Sajeeb Ali who died in a road accident in October last.
She also gave financial assistance of Tk 20 lakh to the family of Atiar Rahman, an elected commissioner of Noapara Municipality who was killed by the BNP cadres in March 2002.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Health Minister Zahid Malek, Sheikh Jewel, MP, Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam and PMO Secretary Sajjadul Hassan, among others, were present.
