PM conveys message on cremation of Buddhist supreme patriarch Dr Dharmasen

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today conveyed her best
wishes to all Buddhists on the occasion of the national cremation of the highest Buddhist religious leader of the country Venerable Dr Dharmasen Mohathero to be held tomorrow.

The funeral rites for the Buddhist Supreme Patriarch Sangaraj Dr Dharmasen is going to be cremated after nearly one year later of his passing away due to COVID -19 pandemic.

In her message, the premier said, “Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony. The country was liberated with participation of all in the country’s great Liberation War”.

“Buddhists are peace-loving and partners of humane moral and thousand-years’ Buddhist heritages and cultures remained intermingled with the soil and people of Bangladesh”. Sheikh Hasina said,

There are many ancient Buddhist monasteries, archaeological and cultural sites are
crisscrossed in different parts of the country, she said, adding that the Buddhists have made outstanding contributions to meditation, education, culture, knowledge and the liberation struggle.

The Prime Minister said late Dr. Dharmasen Mahathero was a non-communal great
monastic personality. He worked throughout his life for establishing inter-religious harmony in the country”.

Terming Dr Dharmasen as a mainstay of humility and wisdom, the head of the
government said, he (Dharmasen) gave advices through religious sermons for establishing unity, solidarity, friendship and peace for both the societies of monk and lay people home and abroad.

He will be ever remembered by the Buddhists and the nation as the torch bearers of Lord Buddha’s message of compassion, amity and essence of fourth noble truths, the premier said.

Sheikh Hasina wished a success of the national cremation ceremony of the highest
Buddhist religious leader.

The 12th Sangaraj passed away on March 20, 2020 at a Chattogram hospital at the age of 92 and the mortal remains of his Holiness has been preserved by placing into a glass-made casket on July 31, 2020 for ceremonial cremation with national honour.
