Petrol pump strike postponed

DHAKA Petrol pump owners and workers today postponed

their ongoing strike after a meeting with the senior officials of Bangladesh

Petroleum Corporation (BPC) at BPC office in the capital.

Speaking at a press conference after the meeting, President of Bangladesh

Petrol Pump Owners' Association Sajjadur Karim Kabul announced the decision,

saying they postponed their strike as they do not want to see the suffering

of people.

He said the BPC officials assured them to discuss their demands at an

inter-ministerial meeting on December 15 next.

On Sunday, Petrol pumps owners and workers went on an indefinite work

abstention at all the petrol pumps of Rajshahi, Rangpur and Khulna divisions

to press home their 15-point demand.

The demands include increasing commission on fuel sale, stopping police

harassment of lorries carrying fuel on the roads, stopping extortion from

municipalities and dismiss the order to collect license for pumps from the

Department of Environment (DoE).
