Every eligible citizen should spontaneously pay income tax to strengthen national economy for further accelerating the pace of uplift in building a middle income and subsequently, developed Bangladesh.
The views were expressed today at a post rally discussion organised by Rangpur Zonal Tax Commissioner's Office in observance of the National Income Tax Day-2016 at Zila Parishad Community Centre in the city.
The main objectives of observance of the day were to strengthen mutual trust between taxpayers and income tax officials, remove fear in the minds of taxpayers about income tax and create public awareness on paying income taxes.
Earlier, a huge rally, participated by hundreds of people, including income tax officials and employees, civil society members, business community leaders, professionals and elite of the city, was brought out in the city.
With Tax Commissioner of Rangpur Zone Harun-Ar-Rashid in the chair, Mayor of Rangpur Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu attended and addressed the discussion as the chief guest.
Deputy Commissioner Md Rahat Anwar, Joint Commissioner of Taxes of Rangpur Zone Md Motiar Rahman and Additional Police Super Md Fazle Elahi attended the occasion as special guests.
In his welcome speech, Additional Tax Commissioner of Rangpur Zone Abdus Sahed Kabir narrated importance of observance of the day saying that spontaneous tax payment would further accelerate development in building a middle income country soon.
The chief guest said that the national economy would be strengthened further removing dependence on foreign loans for conducting national developments if all bigger, medium and small- scale taxpayers paid their respective tax spontaneously.
"There are many people and businesspersons eligible now for paying income taxes under the present improved socioeconomic scenario and the nation would not need foreign assistance for its developments if everybody properly pays income taxes," he said.
In his concluding speech, Harun-Ar-Rashid called upon the income tax officials to inspire the eligible citizens for paying income taxes by availing the facilities being provided by the government through the NBR in a hassle-free manner.
"The present government has made the tax payment process easier through modernising the tax fixation methods to make it more realistic with change in mindsets of the officials concerned for increasing revenue collection," he added.
