Parliamentarians continue deliberation on govt’s newly unveiled policies and programmes

Parliamentarians continue airing their views on the newly unveiled policies and programmes for the upcoming fiscal year 2023/24 in the House of Representatives meeting.

Towards this, the parliamentarians in today's meeting expressed their mixed reactions towards the policies and programmes rolled out by the government on May 18.

Parliamentarians representing the ruling parties are for the policies and programmes and have dubbed them 'good' while those in opposition were against it. They commented that the policies and programmes dearth of plans and programmes to address the problems facing the country currently.

Ruling Nepali Congress (NC)'s Bir Bahadur Balayar said that the policies and programmes should incorporate the issues of the backward communities, Dalit, women and other marginalized section of the population.

NC's Dr Narayan Khadka called for eliminating corruption and creating as much as jobs by increasing electricity production. Teju Lal Chaudhary urged the government to include concrete programmes for the backward communities and areas.

Similarly, CPN (UML)'s Bhim Prasad Acharya commented that the newly unveiled policies and programmes could not resolve the current national problems. Raghu ji Panta from the same party remarked that the policies and programmes were not clear about kindling hope among the people and instilling the sense of patriotism in them. The policies and programmes also lacked agendas for job creation, he said.

Thakur Gaire from the same party demanded to include programmes that ensure socio-economic growth in the country.

Likewise, CPN (Maoist Centre)'s Madhav Sapkota lauded the policies and programs and emphasized on its effective implementation.

Parliamentarians from Rastriya Swatantra Party's Dol Prasad Aryal and other political parties also voiced their mixed views on the policies and programmes.

The parliamentarians will continue the deliberation on the same tomorrow as well, according to Speaker Devraj Ghimire.

The next meeting of the HoR is scheduled to be held at 11:00 am on May 23.
