A Dhaka court today sentenced one to death and another to life imprisonment in a case over killing of former additional chief engineer of Roads and Highways Department (RHD) Golam Rahman.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order, awarding Rahman's house help Nurul Islam maximum punishment for the 2011 murder.
The court also sentenced Nurul's cousin Lavlu Rahman to life imprisonment.
According to the case documents, police recovered the body of Rahman from the Kalabagan home on May 11, 2011. Rahman's wife former lawmaker Shahana Rahman filed a murder case naming Nurul and other unidentified assailants as accused.
Nurul was arrested from Jessore three days after the murder and police after their investigation submitted charge sheet against him and Lavlu. Though Nurul was present during today's verdict, Lavlu is still on run.
