One held for taking Tk 50 lakh from British Bangladeshi family

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in an overnight raid arrested a man from capital's Diabari area for his alleged involvement in extorting Tk 50 lakh from a British Bangladeshi family claiming himself as an informer of the law enforcement agencies.

Commanding Officer (CO) of RAB-4 Khandker Lutfor Kabir this afternoon informed journalists at a press conference in city's Karwan Bazar RAB media centre.

The arrestee was identified as Haji Alam, who extorted Taka 50 lakh in four phases saying that he would find out Yasin Mohammad Talukder, 36, a Bangladeshi-born British citizen, who remained untraced since five months, he said.

Earlier, a case was filed with Shah Ali police station of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in this connection.

Meanwhile, other two accomplices- Mojibor and Labu- went into hiding soon after the arrest of Hazi Alam, the CO added.
