DHAKA, Mar 10, 2017 (BSS)- Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid today said without combating corruption desired result of development could not be reached at people's doorsteps.
"No fruitful development is possible without curbing corruption," he told reporters at a human chain organised by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) in front of Jatiya Press Club as part of countrywide awareness campaign against corruption.
Lauding the activities of the ACC as an effective institution, Nahid said due to their (ACC authority) pragmatic and precautionary steps there was no 'admission business' at renowned schools in the capital.
About the leakage of question papers, the education minister said a section of teachers are responsible for the leakage of question papers and the questions are being leaked on Facebook just after handing those over to teachers on the examination day.
But the government, Nahid said, is maintaining zero tolerance against corruption.
Professionals, academics, government officials, representatives of private sectors, media personalities, civil society members and youths took to the streets in the city and elsewhere across the country with colourful festoons, banners, placards and posters highlighting the significance of the programme against the graft, said an ACC press release.
ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmud, ACC Commissioners Dr Nasir Uddion Ahmed and AFM Aminul Islam, Secretary M Mostafa Kamal and Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka district Mohammad Salauddin, among others, participated in the hour-long human chain.
