Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said there is no alternative to practicing science in facing the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution.
“Bangladesh is moving forward to cope with the world in regard to the fourth revolution though the country lagged behind in the last three revolutions,” he said, addressing an international conference on science and technology.
Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research organized the conference marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury addressed the conference as special guest.
Hasan said, “When we mentioned about the concept of digital Bangladesh in our election manifesto in 2008, many people made fun with it. Now it is not a dream, but a reality.”
He said due to Digital Bangladesh, now around 15 crore people use mobile phones in the country.
“Now, even the wife of a rickshaw-puller calls her husband on mobile phone to send money, the rickshaw-puller can send the money to her wife instantly using mobile banking,” said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.
He said health services have improved significantly across the country due to introduction of telemedicine service and this is Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s politics of the Charter of Change.
Hasan said Prime Minister’s ICT Affairs Advisor Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed came forward to take the country ahead triggering an ICT revolution.
The minister said, “We are a talented nation and our meritorious children are leaving their mark in various fields, including architecture, in many parts of the world.
Mohibul, in his speech, urged all to take science-based education and said such international conference would play a pivotal role in focusing the Bangladeshi scientists and technologists before the world.
Secretary of the conference organizing committee Dr Md Sarwar Jahan addressed the conference with BCSIR chairman Professor Dr Md Aftab Ali Sheikh in the chair.
