DHAKA, Dec 24, 2016 (BSS) - The curtain on the National Judicial Conference-2016 was raised today as Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha opened the two-day function at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital this morning.
Presided over by Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah, the inaugural session was addressed by former chief justice Mahmudul Amin Chowdhury, Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif and State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, among others.
The chief justice also launched a judicial information portal on the occasion.
The conference is designed to discuss existing problems, possibilities and solution in digitizing judiciary, easing backlog of cases by establishing effective court administration and case management, sources said.
"Judges of the Supreme Court and officers of the judicial services at all levels are taking part in the conference to discuss the matters related to judiciary and will give directions in this regard," Md Sabbir Faiz, additional registrar (administration and judicial) of the High Court Division, told BSS.
The second-day sessions of the conference will take place in Supreme Court Bar Auditorium starting at 8.30 am. Thirty judicial officers have been nominated to take part in different sessions on the second day.
Discussions will be held on subjects like NGO's role in government's legal aid activities, problems in implementing Women & Children Repression Prevention Act-2000 and the solutions and things to do in increasing efficiency of court administration on the second and concluding day.
It is the second time, the Supreme Court is going to organise such a conference in its bid to reform the judiciary. Last year, it was organised for the first time and was widely appreciated by the people concerned.
