Mosharraf asks officials to complete projects in time

DHAKA- Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain today asked all concerned, including engineers, to complete all projects within the stipulated time by maintaining its standard.

He said this while speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of the two-day long annual conference to review the progress of development projects under the Public Works Directorate here.

Housing and public works secretary M Shaeed Ullah Khondokar and Directorate of Architecture Chief engineer Kazi Golam Nasir spoke at function with Public Works Directorate Chief Engineer Mohammad Rafiqul Islam in the chair.

The meeting was informed that the Public Works Directorate is implementing some 227 projects under 30 ministries in the current financial year at a cost of Taka 4,837 crore. Out of 227, works of 65 projects would be completed within this year.

"Proper maintenance is a major task of a building as it looses its beauty due to lack of maintenance. Engineers should be sincere to ensure proper use of Taka 450 core allocated for maintenance," the housing minister observed.

He said the public works directorate is constructing a 40-storey Tax Building in Chittagong and a 30-storey Tax Building in the capital, manifesting its increased capacity building.

The minister said the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) recently approved a project for constructing 560 model mosques and Islamic cultural centers at district and upazilla levels across the country. The projects would be implemented at a cost of Taka 9,062 crore.

Ten secessions will be held in the two-day long conference.
