DHAKA, Mosaddek Hossain, who was so far has been successful at No. 7 position, a highly risky place for Bangladeshi batsman, said his hard work to improve his strike rate and mental state, paid off to thrive in this position.
He also revealed that he is keen to continue his improvement in the upcoming threematch ODI series in Sri Lanka too.
Before the World Cup and also during the Dhaka Premier League, I was totally focused on improving my strike rate,he told the reporters at ShereBangla National Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
To bat on this position, it is imperative to adjust all types of situation. Here you may get 15 overs and you need to anchor the innings and at the same time you have attack towards the death, which is complicated task. So it requires continuing the hard work to thrive in this position and I have been doing this,he added.
Mosaddek has been playing at No. 7 position since he came back to the national team on the back of good domestic league performance. He has played some good cameos in this position to please the team management. His 52 off 27 balls against West Indies in the Triseries final was crucial for Bangladesh to win their firstever trination trophy.
Having scored at a strike rate of 182.59 in the Trination series, he also played some good innings in the World Cup. He scored 26 runs from 20 balls against South Africa, 26 from 16 against England and 35 runs from 24 balls against Afghanistan, which helped Bangladesh pace the innings towards the end.
Especially the 35 against Afghanistan in difficult pitch was standout and it is said that Bangladesh could have lost that match, if he had not played that innings.
But Mosaddek knew if he wants to bat at No. 7 position, he needs to keep working hard.
I focused on these things from the last Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Without that, we had no other tournament. If you look at BPL, in five or six matches I have batted with 170180 strike rate. That's where I focused on my strike rate. I knew if I want to play in that position I would have to be clear in mind and bat at higher strike rate.
