Ratargul Swamp Forest

The Ratargul swamp forest is among the handful of freshwater swamp forests in the world. It is a protected natural area under the Department of Forestry of Bangladesh.

The Ratargul swamp forest is situated 26 km away from downtown Sylhet in the Gowain River. During the monsoon season, the water from Assam floods the river which creates an intricate maze of micro rivers through the forest. Crisscrossing through the forest in a boat provides an ethereal experience with hundreds of local flora and fauna making the experience even more magical. Tourists can also go to the two adjoining haors – the Neoa Bil Haor and the Shimul Bil Haor which are an attraction of their own.

Coxs Bazar

In recent years, Cox’s Bazar has become a tourist hub for all seasons. However, most of the tourists flock there in the winter season making it a packed tourist spot. The same isn’t true for the monsoon season though. Since the monsoon is practically off-season for Cox’s Bazar tourism, tourists can expect great deals and discounts on their stay.

The experience of the seaside is out of this world during the rainy season. The misty clouds catch the water on the horizon. The roaring waves and winds make for an absolutely swiveling experience. This is definitely something one should experience at least once in their lifetime.

Dibir haor

Anyone growing up in the early 2000s will be able to recall the vast open water and red lilies that were shown in BTV during intervals. This natural breathtaking scene can be found in Dibir haor in Jaflong.

Jaflong is often considered the original tourist spot of Sylhet as it became a popular destination before Ratargul or Bichanakandi did. The place offers an unobstructed water lily landscape of hundreds of acres.

And during the monsoon season, the water lilies bloom in full swing. Tourists can easily pave across the waterlilies using boats available at the ghat. Dibir haor can be easily accessed from the Sylhet downtown as it is just 2 Km outside of the city on the Sylhet – Tamabil highway.

Kaptai Lake

In addition to housing the only water-powered electric power plant, Kaptai Lake is also the largest man-made lake in the entire south Asian region. During the monsoon season, the Karnaphuli dam is opened which heightens the water level of the Kaptai Lake. From the shore, it looks as if the horizon is touching the end of the lake. There are a lot of tourist attractions like kayaking, fishing or even touring the lake on speedboats. There is a resort near the lake which offers a beautiful unobstructed view as well.
