Monsoon showers likely across country

The Metrological Department has predicted showers across the country in 24 hours commencing 9am on Monday.

“Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions,” according to a regular Met Office bulletin.

Besides, mild heat wave is sweeping over Rajshahi, Pabna, Jashore & Chuadanga and it may continue, it said.

Day and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

The Met Office recorded the highest 57mm rainfall in Sylhet in 24 hours till 6am on Monday.

The mercury reached 36.8 degrees Celsius – the highest – in Rajshahi, while the minimum temperature was recorded 21.5 degrees in Sayedpur.

Meanwhile, the trough of low extended from Bihar to Gangetic West Bengal persists. Monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate over North Bay, added the bulletin.
