Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, MP, here today said that the militants already started to surrender after understanding their mistakes to start normal life.
"The number of militants has reduced to minimum and they would surrender soon," he said while addressing the 'Anti militancy rally and surrendering ceremony of militants' held at 'Shitol Auditorium Centre' here as the chief guest.
Three members of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahedeen Bangladesh (JMB) surrendered to the law enforcers in presence of the Home Minister on the occasion organised by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13.
The surrendered militants are: Hafez Md Masud Rana alias Hafez Masud, 18, son of Mondel Hossain of Loharban village, Hafizur Rahman, 16, son of Zillur Rahman of Binnyagari village and Md Akhteruzzaman alias Akhterul, 18, son of Sarwar Hossain of Joyrampur village under Ghoraghat upazila of Dinajpur district.
After surrendering, militant Masud Rana, who was a student of class nine at Rameswar Darul Huda Fazil Madrasha in Ghoraghat upazila, narrated as how Clerk Ariful of Nurpur Salafia Cadet Madrasha misled him to join JMB in 2015.
"Ariful trained me to make bombs, grenades ------ we planned to conduct militant attacks at various places this year--- and I decided to surrender after understanding my mistakes," he said and called upon other derailed youths to come back to the right path.
"My son went to the wrong path--- he has come back now understanding mistakes," Sarwar Hossain, father of surrendered JMB operative Akhteruzzaman, said and called upon all guardians to remain aware so that vested quarters could not mislead their children.
The Home Minister welcomed the three JMB militants for surrendering after understanding their mistakes and handed over cheques for Taka 5 lakh to each of them to rehabilitate and assist them in returning to the mainstream life.
He said, "The anti-liberation forces failed to turn Bangladesh into a failed state by hurling petrol bombs, burning innocent people and destroying vehicles, conducting terrorist and militant attacks uninterruptedly for 91 days."
The minister said that the conspirators killed innocent foreigners to defame Bangladesh, murdered and injured Purohits of Mandir, Pagodas and churches to destroy communal harmony on this soil.
"The conspirators again conducted militant attacks at Holey Artisan Bakery and Sholakia Eidgah to defame Islam and colour the Muslims as terrorists when the country advances fast toward development under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina," he said.
"The people of the country have now become united to resist militancy at the call of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina," he said and urged Imams, Olama-Mashaekhs, teachers, students and common people to work together so that none could defame Islam.
State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mashiur Rahman Ranga, Mayor of Rangpur Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu, Director General of RAB Benazir Ahmed, Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed, DIG Khondker Golam Faruk and Rangpur Sector Commander of BGB Colonel Moazzem Hossain as special guests addressed the occasion presided over by Battalion Commander of RAB-13 Commander ATM Atikullah.
