Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon
today promised to take initiatives to ensure separate accommodation
facilities for transgender people to fulfill their demand.
I hope one day they will be able to get elected for national parliament
as well. Bangladesh is doing wonders in every sector. Our per capita income
is now USD 1,752. GDP growth rate now is 7.65 percent. With so much success,
we cannot let some of our brothers and sisters to live neglected, he said.
The minister said these while talking to transgender community leaders at
his government residence this morning.
The transgender leaders drew Menon's attention towards different problems
they are facing in everyday life like succession act, obstacles in holding
funerals for their dead ones and admitting children in public schools.
The minister gave them a patience hearing and ordered official concerned
to take actions to solve their problems.
