DHAKA Bangladesh's newly appointed spin-consultant Daniel Vettroi and batting coach Neil McKenzie is set to supervise the national team in their upcoming series against India said BCB cricket operations chairman Akram Khan.
Vettori will join the side on October 25 when the national team starts their preparation camp for the tour in India which comprised with three-match T20 Internationals and two-match Test series.
McKenzie who is currently Bangladesh's coach in just white-ball cricket will supervise team's batting in first Test against India in Indore for the time being.
Akram Khan said it is yet to be certain whether McKenzie would be with the team for the second Test in Kolkata.
McKenzie will come ahead of the Test series and will be with the side in the first Test. It would be good for us if he stays with us in all format of cricket. We are trying to keep him with the side and for the time being he will supervise our batting in first Test but it is not sure whether he will look after the batting department in second Test Akram said here on Saturday.
We will discuss with him in this aspect. Currently we have just agreement with him for ODI and T20 cricket. We are trying to rope him in for the Test cricket also.
Mckenzie who played 58 Tests 64 ODIs and two T20 Internationals for South Africa was touted one of the greatest batsman for the country in longer version format.
McKenzie was the batting coach of South Africa in all three formats. That's why we want him with us for three formats also. But he has some family problems; therefore he kept his work limited. However we are still trying Akram said.
Meanwhile BCB on July 27 announced that Vettori has been appointed as the spin bowling consultant and the 40-year old Black Caps great has agreed to work with the Bangladesh spinners up to the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia.
Vettori New Zealand's record wicket-taker in international cricket will be available for around 100 days in his role with Bangladesh which combines preparation phase series' and tournaments including the Tour of India 2019 the Asia Cup and Tour of New Zealand in 2020.
We will start our preparation camp for the upcoming India series from October 25 and he (Vettori) will be available from the start of the camp as he is coming before that Akram said.
