SYLHET, Planning Minister MA Mannan today said the living standards of the country's people have improved a lot over the past 10 years under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, does not want the uplift of a single community, rather it's working to change the fate of all strata of people irrespective of class and creed, he said.
The planning minister was addressing a function after distributing the oldage allowances book among the recipients held at the Abdus Samad Azad auditorium at Jagannathpur upazila under Sunamganj district.
Chaired by UNO Mahfuzul Alam Masum, Sunamganj district Awami League vice president Siddique Ahmed, Upazila Chairman Ataur Rahman, Jagannathpur Poura Mayor Abdul Monaf, among others, spoke at the function moderated by upazila education officer Joynal Abedin.
Mentioning that almost most of the poor and aged people have already been brought under the allowance schemes, Mannan said the rest of the elderly people across the country would be brought under the allowance schemes in phases.
One day, all elderly people irrespective of rich and poor will get allowances and that day is not too far, he said.
Later, the minister distributed relief materials among the floodhit people on Raniganj Union Parishad premises.
