Food Minister Advocate Qamrul Islam today said the food friendly programme of the government for fifty lakh helpless families at TK 10 per kilogram rice has been acclaimed by national and international levels.
The food Minister however regretted that a section of dealers are found indulging in anomalies and corruption that prompted the government to cancelled 62 dealerships across the country.
The Minister said this while addressing an awareness programme on
Implementation of food law-2013 at Chittagong circuit house.
Presided over by Divisional Commissioner, Chittagong Ruhul Amin, the
function was addressed among others by
Chittagong Mayor A J M Nasir Uddin, Chairman of Parliamentary standing committee on food affairs Mohammad Abdul Wadud Dhara, Chairman of Food Safety Control Authority Mohammad Mahfuzul Hoque and Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Shamsul Aferin.
"The Programme introduced by Sheikh Hasina's personal initiatives and
sincerity should be continued and the persons who ever found to be indulged in corruption would be dealt with iron hand'' Qamrul said.
The Minister said the country now became self-reliant in food. Once,
Bangladesh had to import food. Now the country exports food abroad.
The food Minister underlined the importance of ensuring food safety from production to dining table urging the administration to expand its more vigilance and monitoring on food adulteration.
Qamrul Said the food safety law 2013 in the country has been enacted in line with United Kingdom, Srilanka and India. He said integrated efforts are indispensible for raising massive awareness on food safety.
