Mashiur for maintaining accountability in decision-taking process

DHAKA, Mar 13, 2017 (BSS)-Prime Minister's economic affairs adviser Dr Mashiur Rahman yesterday stressed the need for ensuring mutual accountability of all individuals involving in decision-taking process of the government for maintaining transparency.

"Decision-taking process is getting expedited now as e-filing is taking place in 59 districts. But bringing more transparency in this process, mutual accountability of the people involved in the process will have to be ensured," said Mashiur Rahman while speaking at the concluding session of the Development Economic Conference at a city hotel yesterday.

He said efficient officials are needed in the government offices for formulation of right policies and their implementation. Otherwise, it is not possible to implement the government's plans properly, he said, adding that at the same time emphasis will have to be given on taking decision quickly.

Mashiur Rahman said action will have to be taken against the officials concerned for their failure in taking decisions timely.

The International Growth Centre (IGC), BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD) and BRAC University jointly organized the conference with planning commission member Dr Shamsul Alam in the chair.

Dr Emily Breza of Harvard University, Dr Ahmed Mushfiq Mobarak of Yale University, Dr Asadul Islam of Monash University Dr Mihaj Mahmud of BIDS also spoke at the session.

IGC's Bangladesh country director and BIGD's executive director Dr Sultan Hafiz Rahman made introductory remarks.
