MYMENSINGH A six day-long regional Folk Music
Festival (Loko Sangeet) began at the Gymnasium in the town today.
State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid inaugurated the function
as the chief guest.
Chaired by Deputy Commssioner of Mymensingh Md Mizanur Rahaman, the
meeting was addressed, among others, by Divisional Commissioner Khondoker
Mostafizur Rahman, Deputy Inspector General of Police Nibash Chandra Majhi,
Police Super Shah Abid Hossain, advocate Johirul Haque Khoka, president,
district unit AL and advocate Shah Moazzem Hossain Babul.
The Minister said the government is working for the development of
folklore. For the existence of our folk music Jari, Shari, Pala Cultural
Ministry has taken elaborate programmes he added.
The festival included Folk Fair, discussion and Debate Competition.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Jahangir Alam said the festival starts at 9 am
will be continued till 9 pm every day.
A total of 64 cultural bodies from different upazilas in the region will
perform at this festival promoted by Cultural Ministry.
