DHAKA, Feb 5, 2017 (BSS) - LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Khondokar Mosharaf Hossain today said the local government institutions would be centre point of development in future through providing basic amenities of civic life by infusing new technology.
Speaking at a function here, he said the government has taken a plan for making local government institutions more active and dynamic by improving standard of living through decentralization to reach success of development to the doorstep of rural people.
The minister was speaking as chief guest at a function on 'Inspiring Workshop for Innovation and Citation Giving' organized by Upazila Governance Project (UZGP) in DPHE auditorium.
"A revolutionary change has already come to people's mind and spirit because of using modern science and technology and new dimension should be brought in providing civic amenities keeping coordination with this," the LGRD minister said.
He said upazila parishad could play an important role in development by bringing new dimensions in providing civic amenities by infusing technique and innovative power.
Mosharaf said local government institutions would play an effective role in implementing Vision-2021 of present government by ensuring socio-cultural development as well as providing high-speed interment connection at union parishad, upazila and district level aimed at making digital Bangladesh within the stipulated time.
The minister said the present government is working hard with giving highest priority to people empowerment by developing local government system. He said the government is also relentlessly working for ensuring civic amenities at rural areas like the urban areas for reducing urban migration from rural belt.
Divisional commissioner of Dhaka Helaluddin Ahmed presided over the function, which was addressed, among others, by local government department secretary Abdul Maleq, project director of UZGP Shourendranath Chakravarty, Dhaka division facilitator Dr Shohel Iqbal and local government director Dhaka division Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
