Liton to complete unfinished development works if reelected

Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) AHM Khairuzzaman Liton is intended to complete all the unfinished development works if he is reelected.

Liton, who is also Presidium Member of Bangladesh Awami League, will contest in the upcoming mayoral election as he was nominated by his party high command for the election.

"We will expand the existing 96 square kilometer city area to around 400 square kilometers consisting of the adjacent areas, including the char (riverbed) of the Padma river if I was voted to power again," Liton said.

He came up with the assurance while addressing a view-sharing meeting with journalists at the City Bhaban conference hall here today.

Ahead of the election, he has been holding a series of view-sharing meetings with people of various professions and communities for the last couple of weeks.

Liton told the journalists five more flyovers will be constructed for the overall development of the metropolis by freeing it from traffic congestion.

The flyovers will be constructed on Haragram Natunpara Railway Crossing, Rajshahi Court Station Railway Crossing, Bilsimla Railway Crossing, Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman Railway Crossing, Bhadra Railway Crossing and Mohanpur Railway Crossing.

Earlier, the city corporation has constructed a 202.5-meter flyover along with a 120-meter ramp at Budhpara Railway crossing with an estimated cost of Taka 29.28 crore for the first time in Rajshahi city.

Various other development works are being implemented as part of RCC's Taka 2,993-crore project titled 'Integrated Urban Infrastructure Development in Rajshahi City' at present.

Many of those have become visible which are being acclaimed by people of both home and abroad.

Mayor Liton said they will formulate a long-term master plan for building the city as more planned, green and habitable.

He has plans for establishing an agricultural university, more standard schools and colleges along with turning the city into a tourism one to attract more tourists.

Creation of job opportunities issue will get priority through establishing small and medium enterprises during his next mayoral term, Liton added.
