Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Alamgir Hossain said Shahidul was struck by thunderbolt in the afternoon while returning from field and died on the spot.

Meanwhile, Papia was injured by lightning strike, and died while being taken to hospital in Shibganj upazila, locals said.

According to Save the Society and Thunderstorm Awareness Forum, the reason behind the increase of lightning strikes are- climate change, decreasing number of tall trees, installation of a large number of mobile phone towers, and global warming.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests to stay away from concrete floors or walls as lightning can travel through any metal wires or bars in concrete walls or flooring.
