Law enforcers to be alert in Ramadan

DHAKA, May 27, 2017 (BSS) - As directed by the government high-ups, the law enforcement agencies will remain alert across the country during the holy month of Ramadan to avert any sort of untoward incident.

"The government has undertaken all-out measures to ensure security of the common people and free Bangladesh from crimes," Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan told BSS today.

He said the government, with its sincere efforts, is crushing terrorism and militancy alongside preventing other crimes and the law enforcement agencies have already brought many terrorists and criminals under control.

Meanwhile, the home minister said he visited Karwan Bazar kitcken market today and the traders there assured him that they would not hike prices of essentials during the Ramadan.

He urged all consumers not to buy additional goods as the supply chain of all kitchen commodities would remain normal during the fasting month of Ramadan. Talking about militancy and terrorism, the minister said the law enforcement agencies are working closely to crush militants and terrorists and their networks in the country.

As part of the anti-militancy campaign, members of law enforcement agencies are collecting information of tenants to avoid any sort of untoward incident, while people have stood and raised voice against militants and extremists in the country, he said.

Terrorism and militancy have become a global issue and developed countries have committed to extend support to Bangladesh in curbing terrorism and militancy and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already declared 'zero tolerance' against all forms of terrorism and extremism, Khan added.

The home minister said the government will do whatever needed to exterminate militancy from the country and asserted that the ongoing anti-militancy drive will continue.

Meanwhile, a specialized unit of Bangladesh Police "Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime" (CTTC) unit already conducted various anti-militant drives and arrested militants, recovered firearms, explosives and documents related to extremism, he said.

Khan, however, said some homegrown militants carry out subversive activities in the country but it could not spread due to zero tolerance policy of the government against militancy.

"Our government has taken tough steps against militancy under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina," Asaduzzaman said.

He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina earned global appreciation for combating terrorism and militancy for her strong commitment and measures and made it sure that none would be allowed to use Bangladesh territory for militant and terrorist activities.
