Kuakata mega beach carnival begins

KUAKATA,, Jan 14, 2017 (BSS) - The first ever "Kuakata Mega Beach Carnival" began today with the aim to make the sandy beach of Bangladesh familiar as a popular tourist destination both locally and internationally.

With the slogan of "Sun-Fun-Gaan", the mega tourism event started through a colorful rally with the participation of ministers, high officials, local government representatives, local people, student and ethnic minorities this morning.

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith inaugurated the three-day carnival as the chief guest through releasing balloons.

In the three-day carnival, special entertainment facilities have been organised for the tourists such as beach football, beach cricket, volleyball, kite flying, local games, water bike, ATB rides, boat rowing, beach lighting and camp fire.

Besides, eye-catching natural view of Kuakata, diversified life styles of Rakhaine people, historical water well, boat of ancient period, Buddhist temple and 100 Gods Temple of Hindu communities would be the special attraction of the carnival.

Moreover, adventurous tourism attractions, adventure gear shop, fire camp, BBQ, forest trekking, walking and cycle rally would also be organised to attract tourists.

Speaking on the occasion, Muhith said the people of Kuakata are so lucky that they are going to get country's largest sea port alongside a beautiful sea beach. "We have a plan to make the Kuakata sea beach familiar globally and the action plan would be finalised with the discussion of local people," he added.

Referring to the formulation of a master plan on Kuakata beach, the finance minister opined the more incorporation of people with the formulation of master plan would bring more benefit for the people.

He urged the development authority to carry on development work in line with master plan.

Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Meon said construction of the Padma bridge and Lebukhali bridge on Payra River would boost the potential of Kuakata. He said expansion of tourism in Kuakata would also bring economic development of the people of the region.

Chief Whip ASM Feroz, MP, ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader, MP, Mahbubur Rahman, MP, AKM Jahangir, MP, Shawkat Hasan Rahman Rimon, MP, NBR chairman Nojibur Rahman, LGD Secretary Abdul Malek and DIG of Barisal Range Police Sheikh Maruf Hassan, among others, spoke on the occasion.

Closing ceremony of the carnival would be held on the night of January 16.

Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) under the supervision of tourism ministry is organising the mega event, while 2016 was announced as "Tourism Year" by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

BTB, Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation (BPC) and non-government tourism organisations would organise round-the-year events till 2018 as part of the Tourism Year's programmes to brand Bangladesh as a single tourist destination.

Kuakata is located in Patuakhali district, which has a sandy beach of 18 kilometers long and three kilometers wide. From the beach, one can have an unobstructed view of both sunrise and sunset over the Bay of Bengal.
