DHAKA, Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said the horrible killings of August 15 in 1975 and August 21 in 2004 are continuation of the same trend.
The gruesome grenade attack was carried out on August 21 in 2004 during the rule of BNP-Jamaat alliance government to eliminate leadership of Awami League (AL) If BNP-Jamaat is not responsible for that grisly incident then who staged the Joj Mia drama? he asked rhetorically.
The minister was speaking at a meeting organized by Bangladesh Mahila Awami League at the party's central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city marking National Mourning Day and the 44th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
State Minister for Women and Children Affairs and AL Women Affairs' Secretary Fazilatun Nessa Indira addressed the meeting as special guest. Bangladesh Mahila Awami League president Safia Khatun presided over the meeting.
AL central committee members Marina Jahan Kavita, Parveen Zaman Kalpana, Dhaka South Unit AL general secretary Shahe Alam Murad, Bangladesh Mahila AL general secretary Mahmuda Begum and other leaders spoke at the meeting.
The meeting began with a minute's silence observed in memory of Bangabandhu and other martyrs.
