Khulna journalists demand 9th wage board by January

KHULNA, Jan 18, 2017(BSS) - Journalist leaders here today demanded formation of the nine wage board by January 2017.

The demand was voiced at a road blockade programme organized by Khulna Union of journalists (KUJ) in front of Bangabandhu memorial at Khulna Press Club, as part of the countrywide demonstrations programme called by the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ).

Earlier, KUJ observed protest rally in front of Khulna Press Club on the same demand on November 16 last year.

On November 7, 2016, BFUJ leaders at a human chain in Cox's Bazar gave an ultimatum for formation of nine wage board by November 15. They also announced that the journalists will start series of agitation programme across the country if their demand was not met.

Chaired by KUJ president S M Zahid Hossain, the demonstration was addressed, among others, by Wadudur Rahman Panna, Mokbul Hossain Mintu, Sheikh Abu Hasan, Mallick Sudhangsu, Koshik De Bappy, Md. Shah Alam, Mamun Reza, Md. Saheb Ali, Mahbub Alam Sohag, Subir Roy, Rashedul Ahsan Bablu and Abu Sayeed.

Despite the directives of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Information Minister is dillydallying over the formation of the new wage board, journalist leaders said.

KUJ will hold a divisional grand rally in front of Khulna Press Club on January 28 to press home their demand.

BFUJ president Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul will attend the rally as chief guest while its general secretary Omor Faruk will attend as special guest.
