Karnaphuli, Halda rivers should be set free from encroachers, pollution: Manju

Environment and Forest Minister Anwar Hossain Manju today said that the Karnaphuli and Halda rivers should be saved from massive pollution and encroachment for environmental and ecological

balance.

"The river Karnaphuli originated from Lusai Hill and which is endowed with country's premier seaport and natural fish breeding sanctuary Halda river are playing immense rules in country's economic prosperity", he said.

The minister said this while addressing the reception to the

distinguished persons including doctors and journalists and meritorious students accorded by Chittagong Press Club (CPC) this evening.

Addressing the function as chief guest, the minister said Chittagong and Chittagong Hill districts should have been given more attention in order explore the vast potentials of the country's most attractive tourism sectors of the hilly regions.

Organized by CPC, the function was presided over by CPC president Kalim Sarwar while president of Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) Reaz Haidar, CPC award recipients eminent ophthalmologist Prof Dr Rabiul Hossain, flute maestro Captain Azizul Islam, journalists Nasir Uddin Chowdhury, Anjan Kumar Sen, SM Atiqur Rahman and Nur Sultan Qutubi, among others, spoke on the occasion.

Ziauddin M Enayet Ullah, son of the former editor of the Daily Naya Bangla Abdullah Al Sagir and Shoeb Farukhi, son of eminent freedom fighter Meah Abu Mohammad Farukhi, received the awards on behalf of their late fathers.
