JU celebrates Pahela Boishakh

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Pahela Boishakh, the first day of Bengla calendar of 1424, was celebrated at Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus today with a call for building a happy, prosperous and non-communal country.

The teachers, students along with officers and stuffs of the university brought out the Mangol Shobhajatra, a traditional procession welcoming Bangla New Year, from Teacher-Student Center (TSC) premises this morning with colorful banners, festoons, masks and sign of Bengali culture including 'Palki', 'Dheki' and such other traditional things.

JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Farzana Islam led the procession. Parading main streets of the campus, the procession ended on Old Arts Building premises here.

Earlier, Professor Farazana Islam inaugurated a Boishaskhi fair organized JU TSC on at central cafeteria premise on the campus at 10 am.

Pro-VC Professor Dr. Abul Hossain and Treasurer Professor Dr. Abul Khair were present on the occasion, among others.

Professor Fartzana Islam exchanged greetings with university community members at her residential office at 7 am on the campus.

Besides, thousands of visitors along with university's socio-cultural and voluntary activists, in traditional colorful dress, thronged at different points of the campus as well as respective venues for welcoming the Pahela Boishakh.

Different faculties, departments, institutes and socio-cultural organizations kicked off different programmes welcoming the Bangla new year.

The two-day programmes include cultural and musical function at Selim Al Deen Muktamancha, folk song and such others traditional events at different venue on the campus.
