JP presidium member Abul Kashem attacked by rivals in Tangail

Jatiya Party (JP) presidium member and former lawmaker Abul Kashem was injured as a rival group attacked him at an extended meeting of the party’s district unit at Tangail Press Club on Wednesday.

The senior leader of the party returned to Dhaka after taking primary treatment at a local clinic.

JP leaders and activists said Tangail district Jatiya Party arranged an extended meeting of the unit at the press club at noon. Party’s secretary general and former minister Mujibul Haque Chunnu was present at the meeting.

Centering the meeting, a tense situation was prevailing as followers of JP Tangail unit joint convener Muzammel Haque and JP Tangail town convener Ahsan Khan too position at the press club in the morning.

When the central leaders of the party reached the meeting place, chaos erupted among the two rival groups. Later, an agitated faction attacked Abul Kashem with lethal weapons leaving him wounded in his belly. The meeting ended in a hurry.

Kashem claimed that he was attacked on the stairs of the press club by the followers of Muzammel.

Denying the allegation, Muzammel said the allegation is not true as he was beside Kashem on the stage.
