DHAKA, Jan 18, 2017 (BSS) - Short story writer Kazi Shamsun Nahar, wife of eminent journalist late AKM Shahidul Huq, was laid to eternal rest at her family graveyard at Ghorashal of Narsingdi this afternoon.
Family sources said her namaz-e-janaza was held there after Asr prayers.
Earlier, Shamsun Nahar was taken to Ghorashal from her residence Azimpur in the city this noon.
She died of old age complications at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital in the early hours of today at the age of 72.
Kazi Shamsun Nahar, mother of Shahriar Shahid, Managing Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) and internationally reputed artist and designer late Shahruk Shahid, was a prolific writer and edited now defunct fortnightly "Disha".
She was also a prominent social worker.
She left behind her son journalist Shahriar Shahid, two daughters, two sisters and a host of relatives, well-wishers and admirers to mourn her death.
Shamsun Nahar has a good number of publications including short stories and novels like Sulta Dibya Jina, Swapnil Kabya and Asharer Purnima.
Meanwhile, Leaders of different journalist bodies, in their separate condolence messages, mourned the death of Kazi Shamsun Nahar.
Managing Director and Chief Editor of BSS Abul Kalam Azad, President and General Secretary of Jatiya Press Club respectively Md. Shafiqur Rahman and Farida Yasmin, President and General Secretary of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) respectively Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul and Omar Faroque, President and General Secretary of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) respectively Shahban Mahmud and Sohel Haider Chowdhury, Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) President Sakhawat Hossain Badsha and General Secretary Morsalin Nomani, President and General Secretary of Crime reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) respectively Abu Saleh Akon and Sarwar Alam mourned the death of Kazi Shamsun Nahar.
Besides, President of Muktijoddha Foundation Principal Gazi Delwar Hossain, Dhaka-based Patuakhali Journalist Forum (PJF) President Hasan Arefin and General Secretary Sahidul Islam Rana also condoled the death of Shamsun Nahar.
Praying eternal peace of her departed soul, they expressed their deep shock and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
