A 48-year-old woman was killed and her 16-year-old son injured after a truck hit them in Dhaka’s Turag early Sunday, police said.
The deceased Ambia Begum was from Matlab Uttar, Chandpur.
The accident occurred around 6:30am at Kamarpara when Ambia, her husband, and sons Shamsudding and Mohiuddin (16) were walking to a nearby bus stoppage to go to their village home.
“A truck hit my mother and Mohiuddin from behind, leaving them critically injured, as we were crossing the road to catch a bus,” Shamsuddin said.
The mother and son were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where Ambia was declared dead at 9am, said Inspector Bachhu Miah, in-charge of DMCH Police Camp. “The body was kept in the hospital morgue for an autopsy.”
Mohiuddin is out of danger now and receiving treatment at DMCH, Bachhu added.
