DHAKA, Jan 18, 2017 (BSS) - Journalists today held rallies and staged demonstrations across the country including the capital in demand for formation of ninth wage board.
Addressing a rally in front of National Press Club in the city this morning, journalist leaders said programmes for a greater movement would be announced, if the ninth wage board is not formed by January 31.
They demanded declaration of ninth wage board for electronic and online media integrate with the print media.
To realize the demand, view exchange meetings with different journalist bodies and rallies will be held at the divisional level from February 1 to 5. Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) jointly organized the rally and demonstration to press the demand for formation of ninth wage board.
Presided over by DUJ President Shaban Mahmud, the rally was addressed by BFUJ President Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, Secretary General Omar Faruq, Treasurer Madhusudan Mandol, former Secretary General Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan, Joint Secretary General Amio Ghatok Pulak, Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) President Shakhawat Hossain Badsha, BFUJ former Treasurer Khairuzzaman Kamal, Nari Sangbadik Kendra President Nasimun Ara Huq Minu, DUJ Publicity Secretary Akter Hossain and former Organizing Secretary Noore Jannat Sima, among others.
DUJ General Secretary Sohel Haider Chowdhury conducted the meeting.
Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul said a greater movement would be announced, if the ninth wage board is not formed by January 31.
He urged journalists to be more vocal to realize the demand.
Omar Faruq said the information minister has violated his pledge by not declaring the new wage board on December 31, 2016.
The journalists know how to realize the wage board, he said, adding that the demand would be fulfilled through movement on the street.
The rally was followed by a procession that marched on the Topkhana Road.
