Journalist leaders at a rally here today demanded formation of the 9th Wage Board by December 31 for the sake of the journalist community.
They said that media workers would go for a greater movement if the demand for forming the 9th Wage Board is not met within the stipulated time.
The journalist leaders were addressing a rally in front of Jatiya Press Club here, organised by Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ).
Chaired by BFUJ President Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul, the meeting was also addressed, among others by BFUJ Secretary General Omar Faruk, DUJ President Shaban Mahmud, BFUJ Vice president Shahid-ul-Alam, Treasurer Modhusudon Mondol, BFUJ former secretary general Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan, newly elected Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) President Shakhawat Hossain Badsha, DUJ General Secretary Shohel Haidar Chowdhury, DRU former general secretary Razul Ahmed, Deputy Unit Chief of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Ruhul Goni Joty, BFUJ former treasurer Ataur Rahman, Nari Shangbadik Kendra President Nasimun Ara Haq Minu and DUJ former organizing secretary Noor-e-Jannat Sheema.
Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul demanded formation of the 9th Wage Board immediately for bringing normalcy in the media industry.
He said that countrywide demonstrations will be held in January next if the 9th Wage Board is not formed by December 31.
The BFUJ President said that Information Minister this morning assured that the 9thn Wage Board would be formatted by December.
Omar Faruk said the journalists' community would lay a siege around Bangladesh Secretariat if the ninth wage board would not be formed by December 31 this year.
The BFUJ secretary general demanded to bring the electronic and online media houses under the 9th Wage Board.
