Jail killing day being observed in Khulna

KHULNA The mournful Jail Killing Day is being observed

here today with paying rich tributes to the four national leaders

assassinated inside the Dhaka Central Jail on this day in 1975.

Khulna City and District units of Awami League (AL) and its front

organizations, different socio-cultural and professional bodies are observing

the day through elaborate programmes.

Local Awami League began the day's programme with hoisting of national,

party and black flags atop of its offices.

The daylong programmes include placing wreaths at the portraits of four

national leaders, wearing black badges, arranging milad mahfil, khatme Quran,

special prayers at mosques, temples, Churches and Pagodas and discussions.

Various government, semi-government and autonomous organizations also paid

rich tributes to four national leaders by placing wreaths at their portrait

early this morning.

Marking the day, AL city and district units organized a discussion meeting

at the party office today.

At the function, the speakers said Jail Killing is one of the shameful

events in national history.

They said the killers wanted to make the country leader-less by killing

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four national


President of city unit Awami League and Mayor of Khulna City Corporation

(KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque chaired the meeting while President of district

unit Awami League and Chairman of Khulna Zila Parishad Sheikh Harun-ur-

Rashid, General Secretary of city unit AL Mizanur Rahman Mizan, Acting

General Secretary of district unit AL Adv. Sujit Kumar Adhikary and other

front-ranking AL leaders spoke, among others.

Awami League associate bodies' local units including Jubo League, Chhatra

League also carried out different programmes to mark the day.

The party also arranged Quran Khwani, Doa Mahfil and distributed food among

destitute in all wards of the city.

Khulna University (KU), Khulna University of Engineering and Technology

(KUET) and various educational and financial institutions are also

observing the day through separate programmes.
