Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said that consensus was needed on three issues--- universal access, democratic governance and cyber security.
The minister was speaking as chairman of the Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum at the plenary session of the 11th Internet Governance Forum at Jelisco, Mexico held on December 6 to 9.
"His proposal for universal access to the Net and cyber security was highly appreciated by other participants who repeatedly referred to it during their speeches that followed the minister's dialogue," said M Bazlur Rahman of the Bangladesh NGO Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC), who also attended the conference.
Apart from the three proposals, the minister also proposed a ten-point charter that included greater expansion of the Net, its universal accessibility, pricing it modestly, using Net content in the mother tongue, security of persons and institutions, eliminating barriers to e-commerce, e-commerce friendly policy formulation and establishing Internet as a fundamental right of people.
The minister is expected to return home tomorrow.
