Int’l Customs Day observed in a befitting manner

DHAKA, Jan 26, 2017 (BSS)-National Board of Revenue (NBR) chairman Md Nojibor Rahman has urged the customs officials-employees to create a tax friendly environment so that taxpayers can get all services from them without facing any harassment.

"You need to create tax friendly environment so that taxpayers can get their expected services from you. You need to build a friendly and cordial relation with taxpayers to boost your tax collection," said the NBR chairman while speaking at a gathering at NBR prior to bringing out a colourful rally marking the International Customs Day today.

Like other countries on the globe, Bangladesh observed the day in a befitting manner.

The observance of the day marks the first official conference of the Customs Co-operation Council-the World Customs Organization (WCO).

A total of 179 countries are now the member of WCO.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on the occasion, wishing the success of all programmes taken by NBR.

The NBR chairman inaugurated the rally by releasing balloons.

Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) president Abdul Matlub Ahmad, Film star Elias Kanchan and former national cricketer Khaled Mahmud Pilot were present.

FBCCI president Abdul Matlub Ahmad said NBR has taken steps to create a revenue friendly culture that is creating a tax and business friendly environment in the country.

He assured the NBR of extending all-out cooperation from business community in revenue collection.

Later, a colourful rally was brought out in the city from NBR premises. Members of the NBR, businesspeople, civil society members, cultural activities and people of different professions and students participated in the rally that paraded different city thoroughfares, including Shilpakala Academy, the Supreme Court and National Press Club.
