Indy Cup Football: Dhaka Abahani, Police FC reach semifinals

Dhaka Abahani Limited and Bangladesh Police FC reached the semifinals of the season’s curtain raiser soccer meet, the Bashundhara Group Independent Cup Football’ 2022 eliminating their rivals in their respective quarterfinals at different venues across the country on Sunday.

 

Dhaka Abahani Limited will play Sheikh Russell KC in the first semifinal at the Bir Shrestha Fl Lt Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj on Wednesday.

 

Bashundhara Kings will face Bangladesh Police FC in the other semifinal at the Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium in Gopalganj on Thursday.

 

The final match will be held on Monday (December 5) at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Cumilla.

 

In the day’s 3rd quarterfinal, defending champions Dhaka Abahani Limited qualified for the semi-final eliminating Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club by 2-1 goals at the Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium in Gopalganj Sunday afternoon.

 

Abahani took lead in the 30th minute by a gifted goal when Sheikh Jamal defender Sakil Hossain sent the ball to his own net (1-0) while Stwart leveled the margin for Sheikh Jamal DC in the 77th minute

 

(1-1).

 

Forward Rahimuddin scored the match-winning goal for the popular sky-blue Dhanmondi outfit Abahani just one minute before the final whistle (2-1).

 

In the day’s 4th quarterfinal, Bangladesh Police FC defeated Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad KC by 5-4 goals at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla this afternoon.

 

Forward MS Bablu, Edward, Alexander, Malikov and Esanur scored one each for the Police FC while Selemani struck twice and Emmanuel netted one for the freedom fighters team Muktijoddha KC.

 

Al Amin of Police FC scored a suicidal goal in the stoppage time of the match.
