Increasing revenue earning strengthens national economy: Ranga

RANGPUR, Jan 27, 2017 (BSS) - State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mashiur Rahman Ranga has said increasing revenue earning continues strengthening national economy to accelerate development.

"The citizens are more conscious now about payment of income tax, value added tax (VAT) and customs duty to assist the government in implementing mega development projects like the Padma Bridge from our own resources," he said.

Ranga was addressing a post-rally discussion organised by Divisional

Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate at Zila Parishad Community Centre here in observance of the International Customs Day- 2017 on Thursday as the chief guest.

Earlier, Mayor of Rangpur Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu inaugurated the programme by releasing balloons and pigeons at the Divisional Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate office premises.

Later, a huge colourful rally was brought out in the city streets from the Divisional Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate office to Zila Parishad Community Centre.

Joint Commissioner of Divisional Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Fazlul Haque delivered welcome speech narrating importance of customs duty collection to enhance national economy for accelerating development.

The speakers highly lauded role of the customs officials,

administration, police, BGB and other stakeholders in ensuring excellent management at customs houses of the sea ports, land ports, airports and other places concerned to increase customs duty collection.

The chief guest called for expanding national and international trade and commerce to further increase revenue collection ensuring 100 per cent payment of customs duty for strengthening the national economy to accelerate the pace of developments.

"Enhanced revenue collection can make the country self-reliant for

building a middle income nation by 2021 and developed Bangladesh by 2041 for making 'Sonar Bangla' as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman," he said.
