ICRC urged to work with Myanmar for Rohingya repatriation

DHAKA Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen today urged International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) to work with Myanmar in creating conducive environment to enable safe, voluntary, dignified and sustainable repatriation of forcibly displaced Rohingyas from Bangladesh to Rakhine state of Myanmar.

The Rohingya crisis was created by Myanmar and the solution of this crisis also lies with them, he said.

Momen made the urge while newly appointed ICRC head of delegation in Bangladesh Pierre Dorbes presented his credentials at foreign ministry here.

The foreign minister expressed his deep concern over the presence of large number of Rohingyas in Bangladesh and their children with no scope of education.

Welcoming Dorbes to Bangladesh, the foreign minister expressed deep appreciation for ICRC's invaluable role in supporting Bangladesh nationals during the country's war of liberation in 1971 and their recent humanitarian assistance for the displaced Rohingya people took refuge in Bangladesh.

Before coming to Bangladesh, Dorbes has served as the Head of the ICRC Regional Delegation for East Asia in Beijing till July, 2019.
