Housewife killed by husband for dowry in Satkhira

A housewife was allegedly beaten and strangled to death by her husband over dowry at Sanka village in Sadar upazila of Satkhira district early Saturday.

 

The deceased was identified as Halima Khatun, 23, wife of Liton Hossain Dhali of the village.

 

Babul Par, father of Halima lodged a complaint with Sadar Police against his son-in-law.

 

According to the complaint, Liton married Halima five years ago and he was given Tk 1.10 lakh as dowry. The couple has been blessed with a four-year-old child.

 

Liton used to demand money as dowry from Halima since their marriage. Recently, he asked Halima to bring Tk one lakh from her father.

As she refused to do so, Liton used to torture Halima over the issue.

 

On Saturday, Liton and Halima engaged in a hot argument and at one stage, he beat her up mercilessly and strangled her to death.

 

Later, he hanged the body of Halima from the ceiling of the house and went into hiding.

 

On information, police recovered the body on Sunday morning and sent it to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy, said Biswajit Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.

 

Police are trying to arrest Liton, said OC.
