Hearing of 2 graft cases against Khaleda adjourned till Feb 16

DHAKA, Feb 9, 2017 (BSS)- A Dhaka court today adjourned the hearing of Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases against BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia till February 16.

"Judge Abu Ahmed Jamadar, the Special Judges' Court-3, passed the order accepting a time submitted on behalf of Khaleda as she is not fit face the trial today," a defence counsel said.

A total of 32 witnesses including investigation officer and complainant of the case Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) deputy director Harunur Rashid, have testified before the court in Zia Charitable Trust graft case.

The ACC filed the case on August 8, 2010, against five including Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman on charge of embezzlement of Taka 3.15 crore from Zia Charitable Trust. The court on March 19, 2016, framed charges against the accused in the case.

On July 3, 2008, the ACC filed Zia Orphanage Trust graft case against Khaleda and five others for embezzling Taka 2.10 crore brought from abroad and meant to be spent for the orphans.
