DHAKA - The High Court (HC) today deferred till April 2 the hearing on death reference against 152 accused in murder case related to February 25 to 26, 2009, bloody mutiny inside Pilkhana.
A special bench of the HC, comprising Justice Md Shawkat Hossain, Justice Md Abu Zafor Siddique and Justice Mostofa Zaman Islam, passed the order upon a petition filed by the prosecution seeking one month time.
Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain formed the special bench for hearing the death reference.
The court earlier asked to prepare the remaining paper books to start hearing on the death reference, as some 35 paper books out of 151 have been prepared for the 151 death sentence awarded accused.
A total 74 persons including 57 army officers were killed in a bloody revolt on February 25-26 in 2009 inside Pilkhana headquarters.
On November 5 last year, third additional metropolitan session judge of Dhaka Dr Mohammad Akhteruzzaman in his judgment awarded capital punishment to 152 accused, life-term imprisonment to 160 accused, different jail term to 256 accused ranging from three years to 17 years, and acquitted 278 persons of the charges.
Name of one person, out of 152 death row convict, was dropped as he died.
