DHAKA, Jan 5, 2017 (BSS) � The High Court (HC) today issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain in ten days as to why it shall not grant bail to two people languishing in Kishoreganj jail for years without trials.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath issued the rule on suo moto asking Kishoreganj district magistrate to submit the explanation.
The court also asked the jail authorities to produce Shafiqul Islam Shopon, 35, and Sabed Ali, 55, before it on January 19 and submit the records of the concerned cases by that day, Supreme Court lawyer Cumar Debul Dey, who brought the matter to court's attention, told newsmen.
According to case documents, both Shopon and Sabed are mentally challenged and suffering in jail without trials for 17 and 15 years respectively.
Shopon was arrested in 2000 and Sabed in 2002 on two separate murder charges.
