HC dismisses Tampaco owner’s bail plea, asks to surrender

The High Court today asked the owner of Tampaco Foils' Limited and five others, accused in two cases filed over deadly fire in the factory on September 10 that caused the deaths of around 40 people, to surrender within seven days before a lower court.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Zafar Ahmed passed the order while dismissing bail pleas for the six accused.

The court however, granted anticipatory bail Tampaco owner Makbul Hossain's wife and daughter for eight weeks. The eight accused on November 21 appeared before the court and pleaded for anticipatory bail in the two cases.

The court passed the order today after the hearing on the matter.

Police and father of a victim filed the cases over the incident, where around 100 people were also got injured.

The fire was so intense that the roof of the four-storey building collapsed and parts of the debris fell on the road in front of the structure killing three rickshaw passengers instantly.
