Aimed at to giving a little relive to young school goers, the High Court today directed the government to enact a law asking for not to force primary school kids to carry backpack weighing more than 10 percent of their weight.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Ashish Ranjan Das passed the order after holding hearing on a writ petition filed in this regard.
The court has asked to enact the law within six months of getting copy of the full text of today's verdict.
The High Court in its order asked the director general of Directorate of Primary Education to ensure the fact that primary school kids should only carry backpacks weighing not more than 10 percent of their body weights. It also asked to take action if any school authority declines to follow the order.
The court also asked Directorate of Primary Education to issue a circular within a month in this regard.
