Hatirjheel being developed as Dhaka’s icon: Mosharraf

DHAKA, Jan 4, 2017 (BSS) - Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain today said the government is developing Hatirjheel as the 'icon of Dhaka.'

"A high standard convention centre will be constructed here. A modern opera house is currently under construction. The construction of an open stage is nearing the end and it would be opened soon," he said while visiting Hatirjheel in the city.

Hatirjheel Project Director Maj Gen Abu Sayeed M Masud, RAJUK Chairman M Bazlur Karim Chowdhury and senior officials concerned were present on the occasion, said an official release.

The minister said an establishment like London Eye would be constructed at Hatirjheel to make Dhaka specially recognized.

He said Hatirjheel is being developed as a beautiful and ideal recreation centre to bring comfort in the civic life in Dhaka.

Circular bus service and water taxi have been introduced at Hatirjheel and the Gulshan Lake is being excavated, he said, adding that the water taxi route will be extended up to Banani-Baridhara by expanding the Gulshan Lake.

The minister said, once a dirty and abandoned place, Hatirjheel has been developed as a recreation centre as per the dream of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
