Hand over foreign-returnees to law enforcers: HC

The High Court on Thursday directed the Civil Aviation Authority and Foreign Secretary to take necessary steps to hand over foreign-returnees to law enforcers to keep them in compulsory quarantine and ensure their health checkup to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

A HC bench of Justice Mojibur Rahman Miah and Justice Mohiuddin Shamim came up with the directives after primary hearing of a writ filed by Eunus Ali Akand on March 15.

The court instructed the Home Secretary and law enforcement agencies to take necessary measures for keeping all the overseas-returnees in compulsory 14-day quarantine.

Besides, it ordered the Public Administration Ministry to direct the deputy commissioners to make sure the foreign-returnees are kept in home quarantine.

The HC also asked the Health Secretary for taking measures for the medical checkup of the returnees and providing proper treatment to the coronavirus suspected patients.

Deputy Attorney General Nowrose MR Chowdhury represented the state.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh has confirmed the detection of 17 coronavirus patients and one death.
