Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, MP, said today that the government was determined to protect the interest of local television networks and professionals working with it.
The minister added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina television was undergoing a "boom".
The minister was speaking as the chief guest at a tea-party organised at the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) auditorium with Information Secretary Mortuza Ahmed as the moderator.
The Information Secretary proposed formation of a committee of all stake-holders headed by the director general of Bangladesh Television (BTV) to protect the industry.
The Information Minister immediately endorsed the proposal.
Earlier, the TV professionals came up with a 5-point proposal to protect the TV industry. It included ban on telecast of TV programs dubbed in Bengali and Bangladeshi advertisements being shown in foreign channels.
Among others, director generals of PIB Shah Md Alamgir and BTV S M Haroon-ur-Rashid were present on the occasion, along with high officials of information ministry.
The TV actors' delegation included Actors Towkir Hasan, Azizul Hakim and Zahid Hasan.
